Batshuayi fears Carroll injury may block his Chelsea exit

A potentially serious injury for Andy Carroll could have unwanted consequences for Michy Batshuayi as the Chelsea forward hopes to seal his departure from Stamford Bridge.

Scarcely used so far in the 2017-18 season, Batshuayi had set his sights on a temporary switch away from west London.

With the World Cup in particular the goal for the Belgium international, he had hoped that a loan move to Sevilla or Dortmund would give him the necessary first-team football to push his way into Roberto Martinez's plans.

News that Carroll is potentially facing a long lay-off, however, jeopardises his arrival in Sevilla, which earlier this week had looked a near certainty.

Carroll has reportedly suffered an ankle injury that could keep him out for at least one month, and possibly up to four months if the problem requires surgery.

For their part, Chelsea will not allow Batshuayi to leave Stamford Bridge unless a forward replacement is sealed.

Batshuayi is now worried that if Carroll is written off by those in charge at the Blues, his own move will be mothballed.

The former Marseille man has made just 11 Premier League appearances so far this season, scoring two goals.
