Alvaro Morata’s continued link with a Juventus return no surprise

It’s safe say to Alvaro Morata’s time in England hasn’t been the most impressive. Average at times but a flop in most outings with Chelsea hasn’t really endeared him to the Stamford Bridge faithful. Ridiculed for his inability to convert the most obvious of chances combined with an appalling goalscoring record and it really can’t get any worst. But for Morata, it did as he failed to make the Spain squad heading for the World Cup joining club team-mate Cesc Fabregas.

Indeed this wasn’t what the Spaniard had in mind when he left Real Madrid in search for more playing time. While fans in England remember him as flop and those in Spain view him as nothing more than a super sub for the more established stars of Los Blancos, those in Turin have an altogether different image of the forward.

It wasn’t too long ago Morata was touted as one of the brightest talents in Europe and his move to Juventus in 2014 proved why many believe he was destined for greatness in the game. The 25-year-old often mentioned how he found an environment full of avuncular players that were able to show him guidance; it included the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli. And it was due to this safe haven that he found which made his star shine so bright in Serie A.

Morata was an important cog in the Bianconeri’s dominant form. He scored 15 goals in 63 appearances while earning two league titles and three domestic cup medals. In Europe his impressive partnership with Carlos Tevez led the Italian champions all the way to the Champions League final in 2015. He eventually left for Spain in 2016 after Los Merengues exercised their buy-back clause to bring back Morata from Juventus for €30 million.

Now compare the aforementioned scenario with the current one Morata is facing and it’s easy to see how far he has fallen off the radar. But that could all change in an instant especially with talks of the forward linked to Juventus once again. It is rumoured that the Italian giants are keen to capitalise on uncertainty surrounding Chelsea’s next boss by swooping for unsettled Morata.

The Old Lady are said to be offering Gonzalo Higuain in return for Morata’s services. As Higuain turns 31 next season, he is five years older than Morata and has now been offered the chance to try his luck in England before the curtain falls on his career. For the latter, the hope is that such a move will materialise as it gives him a chance of reviving his career. Morata is a fan favourite in Turin and his history with the club is a positive one. There is no doubt his return could usher in him playing his best football once again similar to his first stint.
