Arsenal were the favourites heading into the first FA Cup semifinal but came into the game on the back of a poor few weeks of results. Wigan are the title holders and have only just knocked out Manchester City in the quarter finals.

As such, the manner of the match indicates the nervousness of the Premier League side. Movement and attacking plays were not as fluent as it normally is.

It was a equalising goal in the final minutes of normal time that meant the match went into extra time. That knocked the stuffings out of Wigan but when it comes down to penalty shoot-out, it is as much about technique as mental strength.

As the favourite, to go into the shoot-out against a Championship side can have a detrimental impact on the players but that was wiped immediately when Lukasz Fabianski blocked the Gary Caldwell's penalty. That gave the Arsenal takers a confidence boost that was only further enhanced when Fabianski again deliver the goods to stop Wigan's second penalty.

The Pole hasn't always been everyone's favourite but every time that he has been called upon this season, he has been superb. In fact Fabianski was also credited with super performances against the 2 Merseyside teams that got Arsenal to the semifinal in the first place.

It will be sad for Gooners to see Fabianski walking away on a free come summer but every single one of them will be thankful for his contribution in getting Arsenal a final date in May.
