"I think he must have been born on Mars or Venus or some other planet! He's fantastic," the midfielder said. "He's given us so much.
"He's a leader on and off the pitch. With his saves, we always get second chances. He's a great person too, so I think he deserves all of this attention. He's centre stage now, but we knew from the start how awesome he is.
"They equalised but we were actually quite calm. We didn't go crazy and think, "Oh no, here we go," we just thought, 'Okay, penalties it is'. We held on and our keeper held onto us.
"And we won it in penalties thanks to him."
The victory means that Costa Rica now advance to the last eight for the first time, where they will meet Netherlands, and the AIK player admitted the realisation of their achievement hadn't quite hit the players yet.
"I don't think we'll realise what we've done until we get home," Borges added. "Although I hope that's not any time soon. Because right now, we're just going game by game.
"We don't have time to dwell on it. And we don't want to lapse into that comfort zone. I think with time we'll appreciate what just happened but for now, it's Holland next."

"Why can't we win? Why not? If we work like this, it can happen. If we already think we've achieved enough when we go onto the pitch, we're going to lose; Holland will punish us.
"We can't allow ourselves to relax. People were saying that it might happen when we played Greece after playing three big names in the group but we didn't allow that.
"So we just have to face Holland like we have faced every match."
