Switzerland striker Josip Drmic has voiced his frustration with the referee's decision to disallow his second-half goal in his side's 2-1 World Cup win against Ecuador at the Estadio Mane Garrincha for alleged offside.

The attacker, who will join Bayer Leverkusen from Nurnberg this summer, found the net halfway through the second half with the score at 1-1, but his strike from close range was disallowed after the linesman wrongly raised his flag.

"The disallowed goal? For me it wasn’t offside. The ball came off an opponent I think. I got the chance to turn and scored. It was a goal for me," Drmic told Goal.

"But I have to accept the referee’s decision and look to the future. The most important thing is that we won."

The young attacker, 21, felt Switzerland showed their opponents too much respect early in the game, but was pleased with their reaction in the second half.

"We showed Ecuador a lot of respect at the start of the game. They took advantage of that and scored the opener. We lost possession too easily a few times.

"We improved a bit after their goal. We dominated, created chances and reacted well. It was an incredibly happy ending for us that we scored two goals after the break."

Switzerland meet France in their next game and Drmic has stressed that the Swiss will do their utmost to make life hard for Didier Deschamps' men.

"The France game is going to be very, very difficult," he added. "They have a great team and some amazing, very quick players. It will be hard for us, but it will be equally hard for them. We will do whatever it takes to make life hard for them and bag the full three points.

"This win is a big confidence boost and we will take this with us toward the game against France. We have to act as a team against them and do as well as possible. This win is proof that we can also beat France. Only the team matters.”
