thumbnail Hello,

Goal takes a look at who topped and who flopped as sorry Red Devils slumped to their fourth home defeat of the season to rejuvenated Spurs

Welcome to Goal's new feature: Top and Flop. For every game, a candidate will be put forward, as chosen by Goal, who deserves recognition for achieving something special. We will also name a player whose performance wasn’t up to the mark on the given day.

TOP: AARON LENNON

Tim Sherwood's Tottenham Hotspur put on a masterclass counter-attacking display which humbled the United defence with consummate ease.  Both Emmanueal Adebayor and Cristian Eriksen had excellent games for Spurs but Aaron Lennon from my point of view, stole the show with his mazy runs and exposed United's worst kept defensive secret - Patrice Evra's vulnerability to pace. Lennon provided a constant threat down the right hand side and tormented the woeful leftback all night. He completed two take ons, crossed four times and expertly assisted Eriksen's goal. A superb display by the nippy winger who seems to reserve his best performances for the Red Devils.

FLOP: PATRICE EVRA

Against a revitalised Spurs, the Frenchman was a proven liability in the United defence. He struggled to contain the movement and crosses from his side with no successful tackles made. Electric-paced Aaron Lennon had a field day against the prominently ageing Evra which reinforces the notion that the leftback is now way past his his sell-by-date.
