thumbnail Hello,

Goal.com picks out the star performers in the Malaysian top flight after another pulsating week of action

This past week in the Malaysian Super League (MSL), while the LionsXII took a break, Darul Takzim edged closer to the league summit after defeating Kelantan 2-0. Selangor saw off Terengganu with a similar score line to put some weight into their title contention. Negeri Sembilan, on the other hand, were condemned to yet another defeat – 2-0 against Pahang – after we all thought that their fight for survival had begun.

Here, Goal takes a look at the standout performers from the latest round of MSL action.

JDT’s Al-Hafiz will take his place in goal after he did well to anticipate the Red Warriors’ attacking flow while also launching quick counterattacks from the back.

Kamarul Afiq and Fadhil Hashim come into the heart of the defence. The former put up a stellar performance silencing Kelantan's Haris Safwan while Fadhil made some tackles, interceptions, and notably, the off-the-line clearance to prevent Negeri Sembilan from scoring. Joining them will be Mahali Jasuli once again who, needless to say, put up a hell of a show against Terengganu on Wednesday.

Nurul Azwan Roya was tireless when he played against his former side as he sealed his stellar night with a goal for himself. He is joined in the five-man midfield by Raimi Nor after he put on an all-round enterprising display from the wide positions. Azidan Sarudin came on as a substitute to hold back Negeri Sembilan’s attacks and provided an assist with his free kick. Another player in the middle of the park will be Azamuddin Akil who wasn’t as lively as he usually is but nevertheless contributed to his side’s victory by disrupting the Deers’ defence. S. Veenod earns a spot in this week's lineup after he ensured that Selangor had the right platform to go forward and attack, knowing full well they could depend on him if Terengganu break for a counterattack.

Upfront we’ll have Malaysia’s best forward, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, and Francis Forkey Doe. Mat-Yo was always dangerous with the ball at his feet and a tired looking Kelantan team were unable to handle him the longer it went on. The Liberian was Selangor’s saviour once again after he netted a brace to grab the Red Giants’ first win in six matches. He was also unselfish as he worked hard and created chances for others.
