Bristol Rovers announce on Twitter that their on-loan keeper Neil Etheridge will depart for national duty with the Philippines after a league game
Only days after it was suggested that Philippines goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is set to give the AFF Suzuki Cup a miss, his club Bristol Rovers have confirmed that he will be joining the Azkals at the tournament after all.
The news was revealed by Rovers on their official Twitter account before their Tuesday night game against Port Vale – in which they lost 4-0.
“Rovers will miss keeper Neil Etheridge for two games after tonight, as he goes to play for the Philippines,” the message read.
The 22-year-old English-Filipino footballer, who had initially appeared to have turned down the chance to represent the country of his mother at the regional tournament, will now definitely miss Rovers’ next two games against Bradford City (Nov 24) and Wycombe Wanderers (Dec 1).
