'We have a strong team' - Emelio Caligdong optimistic of Philippines' chance at 2012 AFF Cup

The 29-year-old midfielder is confident of the Azkals' chances at South-East Asia's major tournament despite being placed in the 'group of death'
Philippines midfielder Emelio Caligdong is convinced of their chances of success at the 2012 AFF Cup and has warned the other Group A competitors not to underestimate them.

Caligdong, who is commonly known as Chieffy, believes that many teams are aware of the Azkals' potential because his team is no longer regarded as an 'underdog'.

"They are wary of us now because they know we have a strong team. It is actually a two-way street which they are as cautious of us as we are of them," Caligdong told Philstar. "But I am comfortable with our group and confident of our chances."

As for Group A's 'Group of death" tag, the 29-year-old midfielder stated that his team already encountered the same situation in 2012 AFC Challenge Cup.

"They are again saying we are in a Group of Death. For me, it is the same situation as the AFC Challenge Cup in March wherein we were underdogs, so it’s a challenge for us to duplicate our performance there," he said.

Philippines have been scheduled to face hosts Thailand in their opening match the AFF Cup on November 24 at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok.
