Saint-Etienne file complaint against Lyon

The Stephanois have decided to take action against their arch-rivals in the wake of the events during the Coupe de France winners' celebrations
Saint-Etienne have filed an official complaint against Olympique Lyonnais after several OL players sang offensive chants aimed at ASSE during their French cup celebration last month.

Lyon beat Quevilly 1-0 at the weekend to win the Coupe de France, and several players including Cris, Maxime Gonalons, Alexandre Lacazette, Samuel Umititi and Jimmy Briand were caught chanting insulting songs about Saint-Etienne.

"It is unacceptable that Lyon players sing an offensive song together on a hotel balcony in Lyon during a ceremony," a Saint-Etienne statement reads.

"In light of these vile insults, which are criminally reprehensible, the club has decided to file a complaint."

Matches between both local rivals have led to fan-violence in the past, and ASSE feel that the behaviour of the Lyon players further increases tension.

"In the sporting context known to everyone, no verbal violence from the part of players or directors can be tolerated."
