When Edinson Cavani joined Napoli in 2010, it was initially on a loan deal. There was no doubting the Uruguyan's talent, but there were those who felt that he was not a natural goalscorer, and therefore more suited to playing out wide. Three years on, Cavani is one of the most feared forwards in Europe, as so wonderfully underlined during his stellar display in the Partenopei's 3-1 victory over Inter on Sunday night.

The 26-year-old opened the scoring with a typically emphatic finish, after being put through on goal by Goran Pandev. His second came courtesy of the penalty spot, while he completed his hat-trick with a simple far-post finish.

Cavani has scored more spectacular hat-tricks - which have become something of a forte during his time at the San Paolo - but none more meaningful, with his treble guaranteeing Napoli a top-three finish and a return to the Champions League.

Speculation remains rife that he will leave for pastures new this summer, but as parting gifts go, this was a sterling effort from Cavani, who, for the third time in the past two years, is Goal's World Player of the Week.

"Edinson Cavani doesn't just get hat-tricks, he gets big hat-tricks," Goal's Kris Voakes enthused.

"In his first season in Naples he got trebles against Juventus, Sampdoria and Lazio. Last term, it was Milan he put to the sword three times and during this campaign he has now hit a trio against Lazio, Roma and Inter.

"Simply put, when the big clubs come into town, we see the very best of the Uruguayan. A sensational striker with an amazing thirst for goals on the biggest of occasions."

Congratulations to Edinson Cavani, Goal's 208th World Player of the Week winner!

Goal.com's Yanick Vos: "NAC are safe for another season - primarily because of Anthony Lurling and his heroics in a 5-3 win over Roda."

Miroslav Klose - Lazio

@EnisKoylu: "Miroslav Klose: at the age of 34, he's still better than any striker Juventus have!"

Goal.com's Mark Doyle: "Five goals in 40 minutes against Bologna, which begs the question: the best free transfer of all time?!"

Clarence Seedorf - Botafogo

@modernleifeng "Botafogo won the Rio State Championship. Then Clarence Seedorf sang Bob Marley's One Love for the fans. Legend!"

Goal.com's Stefan Coerts: "Made amends for missing a penalty by celebrating Botafogo's success in style!"
