Round 28

Stephane RUFFIER
Saint Etienne

Stephane Ruffier enjoyed an impressive game as les Verts ultimately were defeated 1-0 by fierce rivals Lyon in the Rhone derby. Apart from that blip, the custodian kept out the visitors time and again, with a string of fine saves as Sainte's push for a European place took a minor blow. Would've been more had it not been for the goalkeeper, who edges out Dijon's Baptiste Reynet for the honour.

Aymen Abdennour has joined Montpellier's Henri Bedimo for the most appearances in this season's Team of the Week (TOTW). The young Tunisian international's burgeoning reputation continued as le Tefece claimed a priceless 1-0 win away to Rennes to embark on an unlikely push for Champions League football next season.

Team-mate Serge Aurier joins Abdennour in defence after an equally impressive display for Alain Casanova's men. Aurier controlled his flank expertly to stifle les Rouge et Noir and help to bag a vital three points for his side.

Rounding off the defence for Week 28 is Thomas Heurtaux of Caen, who kept PSG in check during les Malherbes 2-2 draw with the league leaders on Saturday. Heurtaux scored the vital second goal as Franck Dumas' men came close to a shock victory, before Christophe Jallet's late equaliser.

Christophe Jallet debuts in the TOTW after saving les Parisiens' in dramatic fashion, continuing PSG's late-scoring form as he netted at the death to steal a point for Ancelotti's men. The right-flanked player came on as a substitute, and his influence told as the league leaders displayed their character with another late show.

Younousse Sankhare was the driving force as Dijon claimed a shock 2-1 victory over Champions League quarter-finalists Marseille. Sankhare scored the equaliser, and proved too hot to handle for Didier Deschamps' men as Patrice Carteron's side boost their survival hopes.

Lossemy Karaboue makes his second appearance in the Best XI, and his first in 2012, after denying Montpellier with an assured performance as Nancy ultimately prevailed 1-0. Karaboue was one of the game's shining lights, and his efficiency in the middle of the park showed.

Kevin Monnet-Paquet also makes the TOTW for the second time this term after helping FC Lorient to a 2-1 victory over Brest. Monnet-Paquet grabbed the winner four minutes from time to hand les Merlus a deserved three points.

Eden Hazard stole the show as he scored one and made two assists as Lille dismantled northern rivals Valenciennes 4-0 at the Stadium Lille Metropole. Hazard, under the watchful eye of Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, excelled for the hosts as they consolidated their third-place position, which also brings with it a place in the Champions League qualifiers.

Edouard Butin enjoyed another good game for Sochaux, and under new coach Eric Hely, with les Lionceaux securing a second successive win to move off the bottom of the table. Butin hit Nice with a goal, and helped to seal a priceless three points.

Tulio de Melo rounds off the team for Week 28, capitalising on a rare start for les Dogues by combining superbly with Hazard, and etching his name onto the scoresheet with a great header.
