Struggling Bolton back under-fire boss Owen Coyle

The Championship club will stand by the Scot despite a poor start to the season that has seen them win just one of their first six games, following Premier League relegation

Bolton are ready to stick with manager Owen Coyle despite their dismal start to the new season.

Wanderers have lost three of their first six league games and are 15th in the Championship, despite being one of the favourites for automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Coyle has admitted that he is under pressure ahead of Saturday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday, but Goal.com understands that he has been given reassurances over his future.

The Scot met with chairman Phil Gartside during the summer as the club plotted a return to the top flight and planned a long-term strategy.

While some reports have suggested that Coyle has two games to save his job, Bolton executives actually take the opposite view, feeling that a couple of positive results will change the complexion of their season.

Gartside has a strong relationship with the manager and will not press the panic button, despite conceding earlier this month that results needed to improve.

He understands that it will take time for Bolton to adapt to operating with a small transfer budget after making a series of cost-cutting measures following their relegation from the Premier League last season but Coyle was given an unofficial vote of confidence on Friday when Wanderers completed a three-month loan move for Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock.

"If the people that make the decision think someone else would be better for Bolton, then I would be fine with that," Coyle said earlier this week.

"As a group we have to stay strong, stay together, stay resilient and show our quality – not just talk about it, but deliver. I stress that to the players.  

"I accept we could be more ruthless and clinical in front of goal because we've had chance after chance. When it does fall into place, I truly believe that run of winning games will come."
