Newcastle United are willing to sell the Ivory Coast international, if they receive an offer of twice the £3.5m they paid Twente for the midfielder in 2010
Lokomotiv Moscow have made a move for Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote, Goal can confirm.
The 28-year-old is no longer seen as indispensable by the Magpies hierarchy and they are now understood to be ready to sell the midfielder at the right price.
Newcastle paid FC Twente £3.5 million for Tiote in 2010, and are willing to part ways with the Ivory Coast international if they can double their money on the sale of the midfielder.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew started Dutchman Vurnon Anita and new signing Jack Colback in the centre of midfield in the Premier League opening weekend defeat to Manchester City.
Tiote missed the game at St James' Park through injury, but Goal understands Newcastle are in talks with Lokomotiv, and the player is also believed to be open to the idea of moving to Moscow.
The midfielder stands to earn a significant salary rise should the move to Russia go through, while former Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Portsmouth midfielder Lassana Diarra will then be allowed to leave Lokomotiv.
Newcastle continue to monitor transfer targets and would be ready to move for a number of players should the need to strengthen in any position arise.
