El Loco: Luiz can ease Barca's heart of pain

Barcelona have problems in defence in recent seasons. It's high time for the Catalans to sign up a solid defender. Chelsea's David Luiz should help.

Chelsea's David Luiz for Barcelona? A great idea as the Catalans have been suffering at the heart of the defence, at least, in the last two seasons.

The Catalans surely need a quality and experienced centreback if they want to make bigger impact next season -- both at the domestic and European scene.

Barca have been a disappointment this season as they were beaten by bitter rivals Real Madrid in Copa del Rey final and knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

Their chances of retaining the La Liga title are also not looking good as well as they are now four points behind leaders Atletico.

With club legend Carles Puyol leaving in the summer, Barca need to beef up the defence.

At the moment, there are only two natural centrebacks at Nou Camp in the experienced Gerard Pique and 'rookie' Marc Bartra.

Javier Mascherano? He is more of a holding midfielder rather than a centreback. He is more effective playing his usual role in midfield rather than in the heart of defence.

Mascherano tries his best but he looks shaky. But then again, he can't be solely blamed if something goes wrong in defence.

This is where Luiz come into the picture. He can play the centreback role, of course, he makes mistakes at times. But who doesn't?

What more, he can also play in midfield as well effectively as evident with Chelsea. And he is also capable of launching a rocket in a freekick.

Barca have options in dead ball situations if Luiz end up at Nou Camp rather than just relying on Lionel Messi and Xavi.

Promising goalkeeper Ter-Stegen looks set to join Barcelona.

Goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, just 21, will also be a good buy for Barca. In fact, the Borussia Monchengladbach man is poised to join Barca in the summer.

The Germany international will be handy in view of the imminent departure of Nou Camp hero Victor Valdes.

Oh yes ... Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes on-loan Barca winger Gerard Deulofeu can be one of the best players in the world.

Deulofeu moved on a season-long deal to Everton last summer and impressed Martinez.

“I am convinced he can be one of the great players in the world,” Martinez told Onda Cero.

Barca need to bring back the highly-talented Deulofeu back to Nou Camp, as soon as if possible. This means in the summer.

The 20-year-old will give Barca more options in the attacking aspect -- especially with the rumours that Alexis Sanchez and Pedro have been wooed by some big clubs in Europe like Juventus and what have you.

Whatever, this is also interesting. Barca defender Bartra revealed of his role in Gareth Bale's wonder goal for Real in the Copa del Rey final.

Bale managed to overcome Bartra's challenge to score a superb individual winner in Real's 2-1 win.

"He caught me when I was tired, but I don't want to take anything away from Bale's goal," said Bartra.

"He's a great player."
