Don't Sacrifice Tello For Reina, Barca

As Barcelona look for a replacement for Victor Valdes, El Loco is adamant that the Catalan giants should not sacrifice Cristian Tello for Pepe Reina

Barcelona should think carefully before letting go of their highly-talented forward Cristian Tello to Liverpool as part of a deal to sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

The Catalan giants may just regret it later as Tello has the potential to be yet another hero for them - if given the chance.

Reina is one of the candidates to replace Victor Valdes, who is set to leave the Nou Camp in the summer with England as the likely destination.

The 21-year-old Tello, who can play either as a winger on both flanks or a centre forward, has been impressive whenever he took the field this season.

He can not only score, but he has also created openings for the likes of Lionel Messi and Pedro to deal with the finishing.

And Tello has scored seven goals from 20 matches thus far this season in the Primera Liga. He can surely improve in no time if given more playing time.

With David Villa and even Alexis Sanchez likely to leave Barcelona in the summer, Tello is one player who is 'ready-made' to take over on a regular basis in the team.

He can easily form a lethal partnership with Messi and Pedro. And perhaps with Neymar or Sergio 'Kun' Aguero if either one of them sign with Barca.

So why let Tello go to Anfield?

The good news is that, according to reports, Barca are working hard to bring in a replacement for Valdes.

The latest name in the wanted list is Borussia Monchengladbach and Germany international goalkeeper Ter Stegen.

Barca are also eyeing Valencia’s Vicente Guaita besides Reina.

Stegen, believe it or not, is only 21 and he has proven to be a difficult man to beat in the Bundesliga.

He is 1.9m tall and can assist in easing Barca's weakness in handling aerial battles and set-pieces.

Stegen, whose childhood hero was the legendary Oliver Kahn, has all the potential to make it great at Nou Camp.

Go for him, Barca.

Barcelona's midfield general Xavi, meanwhile, says they will miss goalkeeper Valdes.

"I have not thought about the other players who might be leaving us," explained Xavi.

"But I know that (Valdes) is not going to renew his contract.

"It's a shame but it's his decision.

"He is a top player and a top person.

"It's a big loss for us, there's no doubt about that.

"He gives us stability and security, so we will miss him in that sense.

"We hope whoever comes to replace him can perform to the same level as Victor."

And again Stegen may well be the answer to the Valdes issue. And again, Barca, don't sacrifice Tello, just to get the 30-year-old Reina.
