Guardiola can turn Bayern sexier...even better...if Raul as assistant

With Pep Guardiola's appoinment as their new manager, Bayern Munich fans can only expect better things to happen to their football club, reckons Mustapha 'El Loco' Kamaruddin

Finally, the long-awaited and intriguing question has been answered.

Former Barcelona manager Josep 'Pep' Guardiola is going to Germany in the summer taking charge of giants Bayern Munich in place of Jupp Heynckes also known as Don Jupp.

Yes...all those talks of Guardiola going to England or France or even Italy earlier did not happen.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain had been linked to this highly-successful manager who amazingly won 14 trophies in just four years with Barca.

Not even the great Johan Cruyff could match this feat when he was handling the Catalan giants when the Dutch master was the manager in the late 1980s and middle 1990s.

The news on Wednesday that Guardiola would be going to Bayern stunned many who had been following his progress after he decided to quit Barca at the end of last season.

Furthermore, it was reported 24 hours earlier in the British Press that the 41-year-old would love to be involved with the English Premier League.

The truth is that Guardiola already decided to pick Bayern before Christmas, according to his agent Josep Maria Orobitg.

“I don't know exactly which day, around the 20th or the second half of December,” Orobitg told EFE Radio.

“He chose Bayern because of all the teams from which he had offers it was the best.

“We were looking over the offers and this isn't the team which offered the most money. It was chosen for the organization there, for the potential that he sees, and for their players.”

That raised the possibility that a Premier League club had offered big money to Guardiola, although AC Milan and wealthy PSG had also been credited with interest in him.

“There have been things coming out from all sides that there had been offers, real meetings, false meetings, trips which didn't exist,” said Orobitg.

“From Christmas he had to choose his future. All this has been signed for some time.

“I didn't know that they were going to announce it this afternoon. In fact they informed me at 12 that it was coming out in a statement.”

Guardiola's presence at Bayern will surely help the club, who have many fans as well in Malaysia, right.

And fans can expect Bayern displaying sexier brand of football under him. This is simply because he is Guardiola.

Guardiola's presence will also make the Bundesliga even more interesting which is good for the league, of course.

A new challenge for him. He will no doubt be under the microscope of fans all over the world and not only in Munich or Spain.

And here is the latest development.

Real Madrid legend Raul, yes...that goal-machine...who else, could join Guardiola at Bayern.

Not as a player though... Raul is being linked with a move to Munich as Guardiola's assistant manager.

The pair are close, with Guardiola having recommended Raul to Al Sadd in Qatar, where he also competed as a player.

Raul should by now know what Bundesliga is all about as he was with Schalke from 2010 to 2012 before joining Al Sadd.

Raul's experience will be handy for Guardiola in his challenging mission at Bayern.

Hopefully, this combination of Guardiola and Raul will materialize at Allianz Arena as Bayern attempt to raise the bar.
