Netherlands keeper Stekelenburg: Something has got to change

The Roma custodian was disappointed to see Oranje exit the Euros at the group stage, and stated that some alterations are necessary before the World Cup qualifiers begin
Maarten Stekelenburg has called for changes in the Netherlands team following their underwhelming group exit at Euro 2012.

Oranje had been viewed among the favourites for the tournament after winning nine out of 10 matches during qualification, but crashed out in the group stage after losing all of their three games.

Bert van Marwijk's position as head coach is allegedly under review, and the Roma man has declared that something must be done ahead of the World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

"It is hard to say what the problem was," he told "It is the same generation of players that we had in South Africa two years ago, and we reached the final there.

"This time, nothing worked. There is just no way I can fathom it. Something has got to change. I do not know what it is, but something has to.

"The thing is we did not do anything radically different to what we had done before, and this is a team that had gone months and months without losing.

"That is why this so hard to take."
