Bert van Marwijk has received some disappointing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of Netherlands' 2-1 loss to Bulgaria on Saturday as Joris Mathijsen has sustained a hamstring injury.

The Malaga defender featured from the start but was forced to leave the pitch after only 16 minutes of play due to the knock.

It's not yet exactly known how long the 32-year-old will be out of action as he has yet to undergo further examination, but Van Marwijk has revealed that the centre-back has not torn any muscles.

"This is quite worrisome. A first diagnosis has confirmed that he did not tear anything, but he will undergo a scan to determine the seriousness of the injury," the Dutch coach said to SBS6.

Mathijsen was confirmed as one of the 23 players in Oranje's squad for Euro 2012 on Saturday.

Holland start the tournament against Denmark on June 9, and will also have to deal with Germany and Portugal in the group stage.
