The 1990 World Cup sensation turned 60 on May 20 but celebrations for the birthday will take place on Friday June 29 and the three-time Ballon d’Or winner is one of the illustrious guests invited to attend.
“We have invited Lionel Messi and he accepted, now let’s see if his schedule will allow him to make the trip. I’m confident he’d be around,” Milla told reporters in Yaounde.
“He will be able to fly in with a private jet to feast with us. Cameroonians would be happy to see Messi here,” he said.
Other guests include Samuel Eto’o, Abedi Pele and George Weah. A gala match, cultural dance and other activities have been scheduled, according to organisers.
The first bricks of sports complex to be built by Milla’s financial partners will be laid at his home town Japoma in the littoral region.
“It will be the last time I will kick football and it will be my final goodbye to soccer,” Milla said.
