The Dutch midfielder is sure that the club have what it takes to defeat the Portuguese side despite the 1-0 deficit but claims that they are concentrating on the Premier LeagueManchester City's Nigel de Jong has expressed his belief that the club can progress into the next round of the Europa League despite trailing Sporting Lisbon from the first leg.
De Jong claimed that the Portuguese outfit deserved the 1-0 victory but is sure that they will not have the same success at the Etihad Stadium on Thursday.
"We knew they would come out strong - every opponent comes out strong against us in the first 30 minutes now," he told City's official website.
"They did a good job, and that's why they deserved their 1-0 win. But you have two games to get into the next round. If we want to go through, we need to win - it's that simple, and we're confident we can do that."
The Dutchman expressed his desire to win the Europa League but admitted that his side's main focus is on the race for the domestic title with Manchester United.
"Our main goal is the Premier League, that doesn't change. But we're still in the Europa League and for us, the only way we can succeed this season is to win one of the prizes," he said.
"After we won the FA Cup, everybody is hungry for more. That's how it has to be at this club, and we will be very disappointed if at the end of the day we have no trophies."
