The St Mary's coach revealed no progress has been made over a new deal with the Saints but dampened speculation regarding taking over from Tim Sherwood at White Hart Lane
The 42-year-old coach has impressed on the south coast since taking over from Nigel Adkins in January 2013, with the Saints currently sitting eighth in the Premier League table with 45 points from 30 games.

"Regarding any negotiations there's no changes from last week," he told reporters at a news conference on Friday.
"I don't really like to talk about rumours. And when anything happens, yes or no or whatever happens there will be a public statement made.
"[The Tottenham links] are really nothing to manage. Rumours are perfectly normal in football and we're completely fine with the rumours hanging around. I don't really have anything to comment regarding that.
"When I was at Espanyol I was rumoured to be linked with other clubs. Nothing ever came of those rumours and now the same thing is happening at Southampton. So it's nothing that really phases me in any way."
Speculation has surrounded Tottenham boss Sherwood's future in recent weeks, with his side seven points off the Champions League qualifying places, having played three more games than Manchester City, while Spurs were also knocked out of the Europa League by Benfica on Thursday.
