Draxler hints at summer Arsenal switch

The highly-rated 20-year-old Germany international, who is also being tracked by Manchester United and Chelsea, admits he is open to joining the Gunners
Julian Draxler has hinted at a possible summer transfer to Arsenal as speculation mounts over his future.

Goal understands the Gunners made an enquiry for the Germany international in the summer, only to be put off by Schalke's £40 million asking price.

Draxler also rejected the chance to sign a pre-contract agreement with Chelsea, but the Blues remain interested and Manchester United have now joined the race for his signature.

“I have always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal is of course one of them," the attacking midfielder is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“Of course I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the team, about the club, and they always have good words and they tell me nice things.

"You never know what happens in the summer but Arsenal is a very, very nice team. They always have very young players, they play attractive football and that’s what I like.”

But Draxler insists he will not consider leaving Schalke for any club in January as he looks to keep his place in the Germany squad ahead of next summer's World Cup.

“No way. I won’t switch then," he added. "It’s very important for me to play nearly every game.

"For my club I have the chance to play nearly every game; it’s important for me to improve myself.

“I’ve said every summer I have to look what is the best for me and I will do in the summer again and we will see what happens.”
