'We need to buy' - Gazidis admits Arsenal want striker in January

The Gunners chief executive has suggested that the club could bolster their strike-force as Olivier Giroud will not be able to 'go on all alone' for the duration of the campaign
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has admitted that the club could sign an additional centre forward in January.

15/4 Olivier Giroud is 15/4 with BetVictor to be Arsenal's first goalscorer against Man United on Sunday
exclusively revealed on Monday that the Gunners have registered interest in signing both Juventus striker Fernando Lorrente and Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy, although Juve have since warned Arsene Wenger’s side against making any offers for the Spaniard.

Wenger has relied solely on Olivier Giroud in the Premier League this season, with Arsenal having built up a five-point lead at the top of the table, while Nicklas Bendtner's outings have largely been limited to the Capital One Cup.

But Gazidis concedes that France international Giroud cannot shoulder the burden of playing every league game himself this season.

"We will see where Arsenal will be in January and whether or not the club will invest in another forward," he told L'Equipe.

"Olivier Giroud won't be able to go on all alone until the end of the season. We need to buy."

The Gunners travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday.
