thumbnail Hello,

The Three Lions head coach is keen for there to be no distractions ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Scotland after Chelsea failed with two bids for the Manchester United man

England manager Roy Hodgson has warned his squad not to discuss Wayne Rooney’s potential transfer from Manchester United to Chelsea while on international duty.

The wantaway striker has been the subject of two failed bids by Chelsea after handing in a transfer request near the end of last season.

And Hodgson is concerned about Chelsea players Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Gary Cahill discussing the potential move with Rooney, but knows he cannot stop players speculating themselves.

"That might be difficult," Hodgson told reporters. "Ashley Cole and Wayne are quite close friends. David Moyes must know that as well. If they weren’t speaking in a hotel, they would be speaking on the telephone.

"But I do accept a duty of care. I will try to make it clear to everybody, both the Chelsea players and the Manchester United players and anyone else for that matter - because United are associated with other players that we might have in our squad - that this is England.

"I don’t expect anybody for one minute to fracture their concentration from what’s important. I must say that both David Moyes and Jose Mourinho have been fully supportive and fully understand my situation.

"The situation is not an easy one at the moment for David and Wayne. Wayne is very keen and anxious to be a part of this but he also is aware he might not be able to give us the full service that he normally does because of what has been happening to him fitness-wise."

England are set to host Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday.
