The Brazilian insists his compatriot is far more humble than his reputation suggests, while David Villa believes the signing of the starlet is great news

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has hit out at suggestions that new signing Neymar is at all unprofessional.

The 21-year-old will move to Camp Nou this summer for €28 million with a big reputation proceeding him but his fellow Brazilian insists he will be humble and ready to work hard when he arrives in Catalunya.

“Neymar isn't a pop star. He’s competitive, he knows the demands of this club and he has come to play his part," Alves was quoted as saying by AS after Barcelona's 2-0 win over Espanyol.

"He’s very humble. He’s a star, but he’s very hard-working. We’ll all help him and he’ll help us. I respect [Johan] Cruyff but he doesn't know Neymar. There won’t be two captains of this ship.”

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Pedro saw Barcelona clinch a 2-0 win over their city rivals to leave them three points away from reaching 100 for the season and Alves stressed that the squad is eager to match Real Madrid's record tally of last season.

“We are really up for equalling the 100-point added," he said. "There’s one game left, and we want to win it.”

Striker David Villa echoed his team-mate's determination to reach century of points this season and believes Neymar's acquisition will be fantastic news for the club's fans all over the world.

“Everyone really wanted him to come; it’s great news for all Cules," he said.

“I was unlucky but Alexis [Sanchez] and Pedro scored, so I’m happy. We’re going after the 100 points total. This win is a very important one at a very difficult stadium and against a team who was really up for beating us.”
