The Japan international has only featured in cup competitions since Saints' promotion to the Premier League, and has now been allowed to move to his former club until June
Southampton striker Tadanari Lee has joined former club FC Tokyo on loan until the end of the season after failing to make a single Premier League appearance this term.
The 27-year-old joined Saints in January, 2012, making seven Championship appearances as the club gained promotion to the top flight.
However, Lee has been restricted to just three cup appearances since - two from the substitutes’ bench – after a pre-season injury led to a five-month spell on the sidelines, and has now been allowed to join his former club until June.
"I had a lot of worries about transferring, but I finally came to my decision," Lee told the J-League outfit’s official website. "Now that I've arrived, I intend to pour all of my strength into improving myself and FC Tokyo. Thank you for your support."
The striker will hope to provide a boost ahead of FC Tokyo’s domestic campaign, which begins next month, before returning to St Mary's in time for the English pre-season.
