Reports claimed the Brazil international was travelling to Germany, but the club have moved to rubbish those claims with a statement over their official Twitter accountSchalke have denied they are close to signing Michel Bastos following rumours the Olympique Lyonnais winger was flying to Germany to complete a medical.
The versatile Brazil international has represented his country 10 times since making his debut back in 2009 and is comfortable at both left-back and further forward in midfield, making him an attractive proposition for Jens Keller's side.
This has seen the 29-year-old linked with a move to Gelsenkirchen during the January transfer window, but the club have now moved to rubbish those claims.
"Contrary to many reports and rumours there are no new players expected at Schalke for a medical check," the club's official Twitter account read.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas also denied that a deal to take the Brazil international to the Veltins Arena was close, stating that there had been no talks between the two clubs.
"No that's wrong. There is no discussion and no agreement," he revealed to 20minutes.fr.
