The Columbus Crew have added Federico Higuain to their squad as one of their Designated Players on Friday.
The 27-year-old is the older brother of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo, and arrives from Club Atletico Colon in Argentina, where he scored 10 goals in 62 appearances.
"We had our eye on Higuain for quite some time," said Crew head coach, Robert Warzycha. "He's a fast forward who played successfully in a very good league. He's very opportunistic and a good finisher, and he can play as a winger or as a second forward."
Higuain developed as a teenager in the River Plate system. His only European stint came at Turkey's Besiktas, where he featured in only nine games before being loaned to Club America in Mexico. He has also played for Nueva Chicago, Independiente and Godoy Cruz in Argentina.
"Federico is a talented, technical and speedy attacking player who will add another dimension to our offense," said Crew president and general manager Mark McCullers.
