TEAM NEWS: Kagawa, Welbeck, Rooney and Van Persie all start for Manchester United against Real Madrid

Sir Alex Ferguson has opted to include a wealth of attacking options in the starting line-up but is without Nemanja Vidic in defence, while Cristiano Ronaldo faces his former side
Sir Alex Ferguson has selected a forward-thinking Manchester United team ahead of his side's Champions League last-16 clash with Real Madrid.

Shinji Kagawa returns to the Reds Devils' line-up and forms part of a three-man attacking band behind Robin van Persie alongside Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.

United are without skipper Nemanja Vidic at the back, who is still recovering from a knee injury, so Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are paired in defence.

The hosts include Cristiano Ronaldo against his former side, with the Portuguese lining up with Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria behind France international Karim Benzema in attack.

Jose Mourinho has also made a change in his defence as Raphael Varane, who starred in Los Blancos' recent Copa del Rey draw with Barcelona, playing in place of Pepe, who drops to the bench.
