thumbnail Hello,

Serbian defender found sitting in the stands almost unbearable, and believes that taking part would have been less stressful, describing himself as 'powerless' as a spectator

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has revealed that he found watching his team-mates in the Champions League final harder than if he were playing.

The Serbian international was one of four Blues players that missed the showpiece against Bayern Munich through suspension, meaning that he was forced to watch proceedings from the stands, alongside Raul Meireles, Ramires and skipper John Terry.

However, following Chelsea’s smash-and-grab victory, Ivanovic described himself as "happy as a child”.

“Some matches are harder to watch than play, the Champions League final is top of that list,” he told The Sun.

“I was so nervous I could hardly look. If you are playing, you can do your job. Sitting in the stadium, you are powerless.”

“But at the end I was as happy as a child.”
