Exclusive: Irfan Fazail proud to be shortlisted in Goal Southeast Asia Player of the Week

The Harimau Muda A skipper was pleased to be part of Goal Southeast Asia Player of the Week
Harimau Muda A's deep lying playmaker Irfan Fazail got pundits and fans alike talking with his influential midfield display against Malaysia's eternal rivals, Singapore. His fine form was rewarded with a nomination in the shortlist of Goal Southeast Asia Player of the Week.

Goal Malaysia caught up with the Johor born lad to get his thoughts on the selection.

"This recognition gives me the motivation to do even better for Malaysia and also for my football career in the future," he said.

Irfan has long been regarded as a pivotal member of Ong Kim Swee's young squad with his high work rate and a natural ability to spot a pass. His performances against the Young Lions underlined his undeniable talent as he ran the opponents' midfield ragged throughout the match.

He has also formed a telepathic partnership with Junior Eldstal which already has the Malaysian football fans buzzing with excitement.

"We have a good understanding with each other. Junior made it easy for me to play alongside him," he said on the midfield partnership.

Kim Swee's charges dug deep to pull off a comeback against Myanmar U23's recently and Irfan revealed that the win had lifted the morale of the whole camp.

"The team spirit and understanding are really good at the moment. It was a really good win for us," the 22 year old said.

His confidence will surely bode well with the notion that Harimau Muda A are the favourites to lift the Merdeka Tournament this year.
