Irfan Bakti: 'Selangor will not bring in any new players this April' Malaysia’s Zulhilmi Zainal met with the Selangor gaffer who made same frank revelations.

Selangor are doing rather well this season, sitting in the second spot of the Malaysian Super League and competing in the AFC Cup, and they have Irfan Bakti to thank for this good run.

In a brief interview recently, Irfan Bakti made his thoughts known on several matters concerning his charges.

He said that he is not entirely happy with the performance of Slovakian imports Peter Chrappan and Michel Kubala, who have not been featured much recently due to Kubala being an AFC Cup-only import, and Chrappan only being pulled into the domestic competitions squad also just recently.

He added that he needs to see more from Chrappan who is reliable when dealing with aerial balls, but unconvincing when it comes to his footwork.

He also related an incident that took place right after their recent draw with Tampines Rovers.

"I was upset that they simply trotted off into the dressing room without shaking hands with the opponents.

"I understand that they were upset, but it was rude and unsportsmanlike.

"After that I opened them a new one right in the dressing room, and they apologised to me," he said with a wry smile.

He also made another revelation that Selangor captain, Asraruddin Putra, is not playing at his best, and that he had only let him start the Tampines match to maintain Asra’s reputation as the team captain.

Asra is currently training with the national squad for the Asian Cup qualifying match against Yemen this Friday and Irfan disclosure will certainly put Dato’ K. Rajagobal’s squad selection under more criticism.

When quizzed about the upcoming transfer window, he replied that he would love to add more midfielders to the squad as the only central midfielders in the whole Selangor squad; S. Venood, Shukor Jusoh and K. Gurusamy are currently being stretched too thin by the hectic fixture.

He also expressed his desire to have Darul Takzim forward Norshahrul Idlan under his wings.

However, he conceded that no changes will be made to the squad this April, as the management is currently tied up financially, a news that is surely a let down to the Red Giants fans.

The fans are not the only ones let down, as proven by his further remark: "It's frustrating when I have my ideas, and the FA have their own."

He refused to comment any further on that.

When walking back to his car after the interview, Irfan was observed chatting with a group of Selangor fans and exchanging some light-hearted banter.

He was overheard quipping before leaving in his car: "With all the headache that I am going through here, I might just leave at the end of the season!"

It is still too early to know whether this quip was nothing more than a joke, or whether there is any kernel of truth behind it.
