Perak's President Cup player tells Goal.com Malaysia about his desire to repay Ong Kim Swee's faith after being given his maiden call-up by the Harimau Muda coach
Perak player Kenny Palraj has pledged to shine after Ong Kim Swee called him up for the upcoming VFF Newspaper Cup in Vietnam. The 19-year-old midfielder has been in fine form throughout the year, playing a pivotal part in Perak’s triumphant run in the President Cup competition.
His performances did not go unnoticed as he was promoted to their senior squad for their Malaysia Cup campaign. Despite Perak falling short of their expectations, Kenny’s individual performances appear to have been more than enough to warrant an inclusion in the national Under-23 team.
“I feel very honoured to be given this chance. I’ve always dreamt of representing the country in a competition and this is like a dream come true for me,” he enthused in an exclusive interview with Goal.com.
Alongside fellow Perak teammate Nurridzuan Abu Hassan, Kenny’s inclusion is part of Ong Kim Swee’s decision to draft in several new faces for this tournament, including the likes of Syazuan Hazani of ATM and Azrif Nasrulhaq of PKNS. While the odds are now stacked against them following the absence of some key players, Kenny believes that there is more to this team than meets the eye.
“I have to thank Ong Kim Swee, who is a brilliant coach. He was brave enough to give us all a chance and we are more than keen to repay his faith.
“This team is made up of relatively new faces and therefore reaching the quarter-finals or semi-finals would be fantastic. However, having said that, anything can happen in football and I promise to give my heart and soul to make this country proud.”
