Kelantan coach George Boateng admitted that the Red Warriors still have a lot of work to do if they want to go far in this year’s Malaysia Cup.

Boateng stated that despite winning the game against Penang 3-1 in Kota Bharu, the team had to work really hard for the result and almost ended the game with a draw.

According to Sinar Harian, Boateng said “We barely got the win and to be honest I am not that happy with the performance of Kelantan players in the second half. It shows that we still (have) got a lot of work to do.

“We played well only for the first 45 minutes, whereas we played well the whole 90 minutes against JDT. We will face ATM next and I have to see whether we are capable of getting maximum points or not.”

Fakri Saarani scored a brace while Forkey Doe also added one goal in their 3-1 win, but Boateng said they were lucky to get away from the game with a win.

“Credits must be given to Penang FA as they played just how I expected. We were being complacent when we were 2-0 up and I am not surprised that the opposition played well as soon as the second half started.

“We were also lucky when Dos Santos's effort hit the post at the last minutes of the game. Apek was at the right place and saved us,” added  Boateng.

Boateng also admitted Kelantan’s injury problems contributed to their below-par performance, however despite this he is still happy that they got their first win in this Malaysia Cup campaign.
