Johor Darul Ta’zim defender Aidil Zafuan has been chosen by Dollah Salleh to retain his position as the national team captain for the upcoming match against Tajikistan.
Dollah Salleh stated that they retained Aidil as captain because of his experience, his consistent performance and his relationship with other team members.
Quoting from Bernama, Dollah said “After I have discussed this issue with the other coaches, we all agreed that Aidil remain as the team captain, and Amri Yahyah as assistant team captain. This is based on the experience that he has, his character on the field and I am also comfortable with his performance.”
Aidil took over the captain role when temporary coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee gave him the armband, replacing previous skipper Safiq Rahim.
Meanwhile, Dollah stated that he is worried with the fitness level of the players, but insisted that it cannot be an excuse for slack performance.
“I have no issue about forming a team, but the team are lacking in terms of fitness. However, we are not heading to there to be beaten, by we are heading there to do something for the team,” added Dollah.
The match against Tajikistan will be one of the few friendly matches for Harimau Malaya before the AFF Suzuki Cup. Tajikistan are currently ranked 126th in the FIFA rankings.
