Selangor’s captain Bunyamin Omar has called on his teammates to keep focused and to forget about the ‘Mission 33’ for a while, insisting they should make sure they pass through the group stage first.

The last time Selangor won the Malaysia Cup trophy was back in 2005, and Bunyamin urged the players not to lose their focus so that their mission does not stop halfway through this year.

According to Harian Metro, Bunyamin said “I want to request, please forget the 'Mission 33' for a while and let’s focus on qualifying to the quarter-finals first. There is no easy way in this group as Sime Darby, T-Team and PDRM all are good teams.”

Bunyamin was worried as Selangor’s record against clubs from Premier League is poor, just last season they were humiliated by losing to Sime Darby 3-0, which ensured their exit from the Malaysia Cup.

“I hope we are consistent in every game and we must learn from our Super League games where we failed to perform,” added Bunyamin.

Meanwhile, commenting on the fact that many have tipped Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) as the favourites to win the trophy, Bunyamin said he is not surprised with that prediction.

“JDT won the league. They also have the best management, infrastructure and players so of course they will be the favourite to win it. For me, we only have to keep calm and handle it like we performed in the Super League, in which we finished second behind JDT,” added Bunyamin.

Selangor are one of the candidates to win the Malaysia Cup trophy as their striker Paulo Rangel is in hot form after winning the Golden Boot in this year’s MSL.
