Different coach but almost the same feel.
That's how it feels like with the latest squad call-up that has been announced for Dollah Salleh's debut match as Malaysia's head coach in the upcoming friendly against Tajikistan. The former Selangor, MPPJ, Pahang and PDRM coach takes over from the departed K. Rajagopal and has only 4 games to prepare before the AFF Suzuki Cup later this year.
The list looks a lot like the bunch of players that Rajagopal placed his faith in with the only exceptions being that of S. Chanturu (Sarawak) and Muslim Ahmad (PDRN). Otherwise, there are the usual suspects from recently crowned Malaysia Super League champions, JDT as well as sizeable numbers representing Pahang and Selangor.
Having seen his chances limited during the reign of Rajagopal, Badhri Radzi will be hoping to get a new lease of life under Dollah. The maverick Kelantan captain has been called up but it remains to be seen, what type of role holds for him under new management.
Among the notable players who made their mark during the tail-end of the Super League season but failed to make the squad includes Nasir Basharuddin (Perak), Shahrom Kalam (Selangor), Zairo Zailani (Terengganu) and Wan Zaharulnizam (Kelantan).
Listed below are the 23-man Harimau Malaya squad:
Goalkeepers: Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Farizal Marlias, Khairul Azhan
Defenders: Zubir Azmi, Muslim Ahmad, Bunyamin Umar, Mahali Jasuli, Fadhli Shas, Asraruddin Putra, Aidil Zafuan
Midfielders: Baddrol Bakhtiar, Badhri Radzi, Azamuddin Akil, Hafiz Kamal, R. Gopinathan, S.Kunalan, Safiq Rahim, Amri Yahyah, S. Chanturu
Strikers: Safee Sali, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Fakri Saarani, Norfarhan Muhammad
