The coach of the Young Tigers, Datuk Ong Kim Swee, believes that Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) have a good chance of winning the Malaysia Cup trophy, despite being placed in the group of death.

JDT, the winner of this years MSL, are in the same group as last years finalists Kelantan, MSL outfit ATM and Premier League third-placed team Penang.

According to Harian Metro, Kim Swee said “I think from all the four groups, Group C will be a tough one. However, I think JDT will have no problem to advance to the next round. They are good team, they are the league champions and I think they can dominate the Malaysia Cup as well.”

OKS believed that winning the league is a huge factor for them, and that they can carry on the momentum to the Malaysia Cup with their experienced team.

“The confidence of JDT players surely received a huge boost after winning the league and with the experience that the players have, I believe this will the best year for them to win the trophy,” added Kim Swee.

Other than JDT, Kim Swee also said that teams like Pahang, Felda United, Terengganu, Perak, ATM, Selangor and Sime Darby also have a good chance of advancing to the next round. He also stated that Selangor and Terengganu have a good chance to make it to the finals.

Ong Kim Swee, who is the former interim head coach of the national team believes that experienced players will step up to their game to make sure they get picked for the AFF Cup later this year.

“Selangor and Terengganu have a very good record in Malaysia Cup, but that does not mean that other teams cannot cause an upset because in the knockout round, any team has an equal chance to go through.

“I also believe that players like Indra Putra, Nor Farhan and Safee Sali will give their best as they surely want to find a place in the national team for the AFF Suzuki Cup,” he added.

Ong Kim Swee is currently with Harimau Muda A in Brisbane, Australia, as he prepares the team for the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon.
