Last year’s finalists Kelantan will face a tough task to advance to the next round of the Malaysia Cup according to their manager Azman Ibrahim.
According to Azman, he admitted that the draw has once again put the Red Warriors in the group of death for the third season in a row, but insisted that they are not afraid to take on any challenges.
Quoted from Utusan, Azman said “Whether it is fair or not, we must take our luck. For me, it is better for us to take on the tough team earlier in the competition. We have every respect for all the teams, and we must figure out how to advance from the group because after that, we will face opponents from Group B.
“We will take each team seriously and will prepare ourselves. We are more than happy to be labelled as underdogs, because that will take pressure from us,” said Azman.
Kelantan have been drawn into the same group as MSL champions Johor Darul Ta’zim, ATM and Premier League outfit Penang. The top two of their group will face the top two in Group B, which consists of fellow east-coast team Terengganu, alongside Sarawak, Kedah and Perak.
Azman insisted that despite Penang only playing in the Premier League, Kelantan must be wary of their ability because the experience that their coach K.Devan has.
“We must pay attention to Penang. They almost made it to the MSL next year but luck was not on their side by finishing third. So are ATM, as the finalists of 2012, and of course JDT, who have a very good team and star players at their disposal,” he added.
The Malaysia Cup kicks off on August 13th with Kelantan looking to end this season with at least one trophy, after missing out on the FA Cup and MSL so far.
