Manager of Sarawak, Datuk Mohd Abu Bakar Marzuki, has stated that Sarawak have only one aim in the Malaysia Cup tournament, which is to win it.
According to Abu Bakar, Sarawak have a strong team and have more than enough players to carry the team to the final of the Malaysia Cup.
Spaking to Bernama, Abu Bakar said “Our squad ahead of the Malaysia Cup is really strong and we want to be the champions. We will also head to Bandung Indonesia, for a series of friendlies to prepare ourselves for the tournament.”
Sarawak will have three matches in Indonesia, against Persib Bandung on July 21st, Persabaya Surabaya on July 23rd and against PSIS Semarang on July 25th.
Abu Bakar also confirmed that their foreign players, who have been missing in the last few matches of the MSL, should be back and fit enough to travel with the team to Indonesia.
Abu Bakar also stated that they are happy with the achievements of the team, who finished seventh in the MSL and retained their place in the league for next year.
Meanwhile, coach Robert Alberts has said that they initially wanted to travel to Vietnam for friendly matches, but had to cancel this plan due to technical problems.
This will be the first time since 1999 that Sarawak have played in the Malaysia Cup, in which they lost to Brunei 1-2.
