Coach of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), Bojan Hodak admitted that he was a bit relieved after knowing that Kelantan had stopped Selangor from going back to the top of the table.
JDT failed to extend their lead at the top of the table after they lost to ATM 2-1, but they were lucky because 2nd placed Selangor also lost their game against Kelantan in Kota Bharu.
Speaking to Utusan, Bojan said “Before the game, I told my players if we win today, we would be one step closer to the title, but we didn’t and I have to congratulate ATM because they deserved to win it.”
However, despite their defeat, JDT are still at the top courtesy of Kelantan's win against Selangor, and now they have to wait for another two round of matches to see whether they will lift the trophy.
“Kelantan helped us by winning against Selangor. The chances are still in our hands to win the Super League, but we have to win our next two games,” he added.
ATM took a comfortable 2-0 lead through Argentinian Bruno Martelotto and in-form Affize Faisal before Asraruddin pulled one back for the Southern Tigers. The game also saw both teams ended the game with 10 players, after Azrul Ahmad and Aidil Zafuan received marching orders 5 minutes before the final whistle.
Meanwhile, for ATM coach, B. Sathianathan praised his players after they shocked the league leader despite having some of the key players weren’t able to play due to injuries.
“It was a tough win because we have to play without the injured Arostegui but I believed the players did really well to win the game,” said Sathianathan.
