The FAM will announce the new coach of Malayan Tigers in June, with former German international Gert Engles one of the candidates

The Football Association of Malaysia have confirmed that they will introduce the new coach for Harimau Malaya in June, and amongst the candidates for the post is former German international Gert Engels.
FAM Vice President Datuk Subahan Kamal, confirmed that the former Mozambique coach was one of the candidates that the FAM have interviewed, but he is yet to confirm whether the new coach will be local of foreign.
According to Bernama, Subahan said “We have interviewed several candidates, such as Gert Engels from Germany. However we will call a press conference in June to introduce new coach.
“There are three or four names but we will have to wait till June to know whether we will hire local of foreign coach to lead Harimau Malaya,” he added.
Since Datuk K. Rajagopal left the post in December, many names has been linked to the hotseat with the task of bringing Malaysian football back to its glory days.
Some of the names that have been linked are former France defender Marcel Desailly, ex Thailand boss Peter Reid, David O’Leary, Zdenek Zeman and Bobby Houghton. Some of the local coaches that have been linked to the post are Dollah Salleh and Azraai Khor.
Currently, Malaysia U-23 coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee is the interim head coach for the national team, and will handle all international matches before the new head coach arrives in June.
