Rangel, who has scored 10 goals in 13 Malaysia Super League (MSL) matches this season, would be a great boost to the national team, who according to Kim Swee lack quality strikers.

Kim Swee also stated that if the Brazilian was naturalized, it would indicate a positive development to the nation’s football.

Speaking to Astro Arena, Kim Swee said, “What I can say is that I will welcome Rangel with open arms if he really is interested to play with the national team."

Meanwhile, Rangel stated through his Instagram account “I am happy with the report that relates me with the Malayan Tigers. Of course I would be proud to help Malaysian and open the door for my family and me to have Malaysian citizenship. Thank you for all your support.”

However, response on social media wasn't all positive, with several fans taking issue with the naturalisation suggestion.

Goal Malaysia recently started a poll to see whether Paulo Rangel should be naturalised and therefore be eligible for Malaysia, with the news going viral after an overwhelming response to the poll.
