The Chairman of the Local Competition Committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah, has said that the only way for Baihakki Khaizan to return and play for LionsXII is to have his contract with Johor Darul Ta’zim terminated by the Johor Football Association (PBNJ).
According to Afandi, his side have allocated one week for both associations to figure out and resolve the issues as soon as possible.
Quoted from Astro Arena, Afandi said “The committee has considered that Baihakki is JDT’s import player and if he were to return to LionsXII, he will be considered as a local player (for LionsXII), which means his contract must end first before he can play for (the) Lions in the Super League.”
Baihakki, who wants to fight for a place in the Singapore national team for 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup, reportedly favours a return to LionsXII to increase his chances of being picked.
Baihakki signed for JDT earlier this season, and has been one of the key members of the squad ever since he joined the Southern Tigers.
However, PBNJ have announced that they have decided to let him go as he was not performing up to their expectations, and in his place have signed Brazilian Marcos Antonio Elias Santos.
Baihakki was part of Lions XII team who won the Malaysia Super League last year, and he has played for the Singapore national team 105 times so far.
