Materazzi, who is 40 years old, is arguably most well known for being on the receiving end of a Zinedine Zidane headbutt in the 2006 World Cup Final in Germany.  It is rumoured that he will lead Pahang for the remainder of the season after the player held a meeting with the President of Pahang Football Association (PBNP) recently.

The meeting has caused much speculation and raised many questions among football experts and fans after Ronald Smith's contract with Pahang was terminated earlier this month.

According to Utusan Malaysia, sources reported that Materazzi will be paired-up with Pahang’s assistant coach, Zainal Abidin Hassan, to help Pahang to revive their season after poor form in the Malaysia Super League.

Despite reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the 2013 Malaysia Cup Champions have been rather inconsistent in the league, which was what led to the termination of Ronald’s contract.

Pictures of Materazzi and PBNP officials has spread widely on social media, however when contacted, PBNP’s secretary-general Fuzaimie Ibrahim refused to comment on the issue.

Zainal Abind Hassan also insisted that he did not know about the meeting of the two parties, PBNP and Materazzi.

Pahang are currently 6th in the table, with only three wins from seven matches, and three losses. They are also yet to record an away win this season.
