After getting trounced by Ha Noi in their Group F 2014 AFC Cup opener two weeks ago, 2013 Maldives' Dhivehi runners up, Maziya will tomorrow host the 2013 Malaysian Super League champions, Selangor at home, the Rasmee Dhandu Stadium.
Little is known about the Maldivian club, and their 2014 domestic league has not commenced yet. But judging by how they were practically overwhelmed by their previous opponents, Selangor are not expected to face any significant challenges against them. Although Ha Noi needed some time in the match to break through their Maziya's defence after Maziya cancelled their opening goal, Ha Noi were in complete control of the match, and when they finally retook the lead through their second goal, Maziya could not stop the dam from breaking.
However, this is not to say that Selangor are on par with the free-scoring Vietnamese club. First of all, Selangor last played in a competitive match two weeks ago, a 1-1 draw against Arema in their first AFC Cup match, so their match-fitness may be questionable. Their last win was further back, notched against Sime Darby in the MSL on 8 Feb. They are also playing away at Maziya, and the Red Giants' away record this season has not been great.
However both teams will be raring to get their first win of the competition, considering that they had both dropped points in their first, and this will probably be a competitive AFC Cup encounter.
