The FAM’s secretary-general, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin stated that as of now, Datuk Ong Kim Swee is still the head coach of the national team.

Speaking to Bernama, Hamidin said “The decision of FAM’s executive committee is still the same, which is Kim Swee remains the temporary Harimau Malaya coach.”

Kim Swee took over Datuk K. Rajagopal’s role after Rajagopal’s reign ended last December. The FAM had decided to not continue Rajagopal’s contract after poor performances from the national team and decided to replace him with a new coach.

However, while the FAM continue searching for the latest man to lead Malaysia, Datuk Ong Kim Swee has been given the responsibility to take charge of the national team.

Under his coaching, Malaysia have drawn with the Philippines in a friendly match, and registered an excellent win against Yemen, despite playing with only 10 men more than 80 minutes.

Meanwhile, the search for the new head coach continues after the FAM failed to reach an agreement with Frenchman Philippe Troussier.

Since then, another Frenchman, Marcel Desailly has expressed his desire to coach Malaysia, while the FAM also revealed that they have interviewed former Thailand coach Peter Reid for the post.
