Kelantan’s trio, Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Badhri Radzi and Fakri Saarani may not be in the main squad when Malaysia faces the Philippines in a friendly match this Saturday.
The three of them, who will feature in Kelantan’s AFC Cup challenge on Thursday, are likely to be fatigued and national interim coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee has indicated they will not start for Malaysia.
Speaking to Berita Harian, Kim Swee said “I already know what Apek and Piya are capable of and for Fakri, I might only use him as a substitution for the game against Philippines because I am sure they will play 90 minutes against Yangon United. Meanwhile for (the) Selangor players, Farizal Marlias, Bunyamin Umar and Kunanlan, I’m sure there would be no problem because they can report with us earlier than Kelantan players.”
When commenting about the fitness of their players, Kim Swee said he is satisfied with the current fitness level of the players, except for Aidil and Asraruddin.
“I can’t say I’m not satisfied or really satisfied with their fitness level. Plus they have been playing with their teams for the past month. Only (a) few players may not be 100% fit such as Aidil and Asraruddin, who only recently got back from injuries. The yoyo test that I did was to collect their record, so that in future we can compare their fitness levels,” he added.
After the game against Philippines this Saturday, Malaysia then will face Yemen in their last group match for the Asian Cup Qualifying tournament. The Malayan Tigers are targeting the best third place spot to ensure their route to the 2015 Asian Cup.
