A massive 60.3% of Goal Malaysia readers voted for Piya to be the next Harimau Malaya captain, with Ong Kim Swee confirming that he would be assessing new candidates for the roleAs the Malaysian national team prepares for the dawn of a new horizon, the potential of seeing a new captain is one topic that's being massively discussed these days.
Safiq Rahim held the post under the tutelage of Datuk K. Rajagopal, but now that Ong Kim Swee has hinted towards the idea of exploring new candidates for the role, quite a number of names are being suggested for the post.
However, 60.3% of Goal Malaysia readers think that Kelantan skipper Badri Radzi, also known as Piya, should be appointed the new Harimau Malaya skipper. The experienced midfielder is known around the country for his extensive capabilities as a midfielder and Piya is also a true leader on the pitch.
The 32 year-old barely featured for the national team during Datuk K. Rajagopal's tenure in charge of Malaysia, but it seems that Ong Kim Swee intends to make use of Piya. That in itself signals positivity and Piya would actually make a solid skipper if handed the armband.
One potential stumbling block could be fact that Piya has recently distanced himself from the role, claiming that he is only focused on doing well for the national team. Thus, it will depend on whether Ong Kim Swee can convince him to take up the role or not.
Besides Piya, the next option for Goal Malaysia readers was Aidil Zafuan, who received 19.9% of the votes. Third on the poll was Baddrol Bakthiar with 11.2% of the votes, while Razman Roslan and Safiq Rahim came below them with 4.4% and 4.3% of votes respectively.
